Helping a heritage railway go full steam ahead with digital marketing

Who They Are

Bure Valley Railway are a family-run not-for-profit heritage narrow-gauge railway, with two stations in Aylsham and Wroxham. They are a tourist attraction and offer a fun day out for families.

Within the business, there is also Bure Valley Models (a model shop and e-commerce website), the Whistlestop Café (a café in their Aylsham station) and Bufferstop Books (run by the ‘Friends of BVRW’ volunteers who raise money for the heritage work).

The Process

Starting in January 2022, we worked with Bure Valley for a 3-month intensive period. But Bure Valley were super pleased with our work – they were certainly not ready to say goodbye. Because Bure Valley felt like there was still lots of room to grow, we continued with another 3-month intensive retainer.

Relationships are important for us and Bure Valley. That is why we value our in-person sessions each week. These sessions include brainstorming ideas together and providing support for upcoming events. We work side-by-side to achieve great results.

Yawn provides email marketing, SEO and outreach services for Bure Valley. As well as advising on organic social media, we provide paid social services, with a focus on engaging new prospects and re-engaging existing customers.

The Results

We are delighted to have witnessed a big boost of confidence in marketing activities at Bure Valley. Together, we created a handy events calendar to help with marketing planning – and our newsletters have driven bookings for these events. The introduction of marketing tools such as UTM tags, event listing spreadsheet, etc., have also aided Bure Valley’s tracking and campaign management.

Likewise, we have focused on improving reach to prospective customers. Our paid campaigns for Bure Valley Railway have generated high returns and reached new audiences on social media. Blog posts have improved search engine rankings, with the promotion of local activities.
