After collaborating on a successful social and paid media project in 2019, 5Day approached us with a new challenge: they wanted to build an in-house marketing team. Recognising the potential within their current customer service team, they decided to train one of their staff members to become a full-time Marketing Executive. The task was to equip this team member with the knowledge and skills required to manage 5Day’s digital marketing efforts independently.
Our goal was to transform a customer service team member into a competent and confident marketing professional. This involved providing them with the skills to execute social media marketing, email campaigns, paid social and search advertising, SEO, content creation, and reporting. Additionally, we created a marketing strategy tailored to 5Day’s unique needs, ensuring the team member had a clear roadmap to follow.
To kick off the project, we completed a comprehensive discovery and strategy session. This foundational work helped us identify 5Day’s marketing goals, strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities. For the team member, this process was important as it provided clarity on the company’s goals and laid the groundwork for the skills they needed to develop. The strategy session ensured they could see how each marketing activity aligned with broader business objectives, giving them a sense of purpose and direction from the outset.
Following this, we designed a tailored training programme, delivered over several months. The key elements of this included:
Throughout the project, we collaborated closely with the team member, offering consistent feedback and support. By using a skills matrix, we ensured a structured development plan, making it easy to identify successes and address knowledge gaps.
The project delivered significant value for 5Day, equipping their team member with the skills to manage and grow the company’s marketing function. The discovery and strategy session provided a clear framework that supported their transition into the role, ensuring they felt confident in connecting marketing activities to business outcomes.
Key highlights included:
The project’s success demonstrated the value of investing in training and strategic alignment. With their newly skilled team member, 5Day is now equipped to maintain and evolve their marketing efforts internally, laying the foundation for sustainable growth.
